2009 Corvette ZR1

2009 Corvette ZR1

February 4, 2008—Detroit—Chevy’s new ZR1 supercar is the fastest, most powerful car ever made by GM. At $100,000, it’s also the most expensive Vette yet, with limited production of 2,000 units. Under the hood is an all-new supercharged V8, which churns out an absurd 620 hp and shoots the ZR1 from 0 to 60 mph in, gulp, 3.7 seconds. Top speed is 200 mph (though the speedometer goes to 220 mph, just in case). That puts the ZR1 in exotic-car territory, as do the carbon-ceramic brake rotors and carbon-fiber roof panel and hood. Along with a plastic window in the hood to view the engine, there are 19-inch wheels up front, 20-inch in back. The interior, with head-up display, is similar to a regular Corvette. Price: $100,000-plus. Competition: Ferrari 599, Nissan GT-R, Porsche 911 Turbo.
