STAR SEARCH FOR STANDARDS
|
STAR communications director Tom Campisi briefing reporters today. |
January 31, 2004—STAR (Standards for Technology in Automotive
Retail)—the organization that’s creating voluntary IT standards
for auto retailers—has a manual to help dealers develop a simpler,
more cost-effective IT network. Its updated Dealership Infrastructure
Guidelines includes, among other subjects, information on
setting up wireless networks within the store. STAR’s goal is
to develop voluntary standards for every retailing operation—from
parts ordering to credit applications—and get OEMs, DMS providers,
and dealers on board so data can be freely exchanged online.
STAR has 41 members, including
NADA and all major automakers and retail system providers.
Dealers should encourage their OEMs to implement the standards
quickly, said STAR chairman
Paul Elert at a press conference Saturday.
